Here is the statement read by Pastor John on Sunday, June 20, 2021:

This coming July 1st will mark 16 years of being at Community Baptist Church.  Over those 16 years, Community has undergone significant transition and change while we have stayed true to the mission that God has given us as a church. As we begin to exit the uncertainty that this pandemic has caused over the last 16 months, I believe the church is about to begin a new chapter. As I have deliberated on what that chapter will look like, the Lord has made it clear to me that I am not the one to take the church into that new chapter. Therefore, effective Sunday, July 11th, I am resigning as your pastor.

This has been the most difficult decision that I have ever had to make. Erin and I met each other for the very first time in this building in 1998.  We have given birth to 4 amazing children while serving this church. This church is all they have ever known.  I have called you my spiritual family, my brothers and sisters in Christ. I have buried your spouses and married your children. I love each one of you dearly and that has made this decision that much harder.

However, in the last three weeks the Lord has made it clear to us that this is the time to depart and allow someone else to pastor and lead you into the next chapter that God will write for Community Baptist Church. After much trepidation, I have accepted the offer to enter the mission field of the Canadian Armed Forces and become a chaplain in the Royal Canadian Navy in Halifax. This new journey for me and my family will begin on July 12th. When the church council meets this Thursday, I will request that they form a Pastor Search Committee to begin the search for a new pastor. I will continue to make myself available to fill the pulpit for the month of July at which time, Josh will fill the pulpit for the month of August.

As difficult as this transition will be for me and for you, I am filled with peace and hope. I know without a doubt that this is the Lord’s will and that He is in control. He loves Community Baptist more than any of us do. Therefore I am filled with optimism for your future as the Lord guides you to select the man who will lead you in the next season He has for the church.

Thank you for the tremendous privilege and honour it has been to serve the Lord at Community Baptist Church.
